Days 3-7: Fighting Temptations!
Days 3 through 7 are behind me and I am already starting to feel stronger…in my faith that is. The morning of day 3, I read my devotional and the words really spoke to me. It gave me added confidence that I can deal with whatever hurdles come my way on this journey to strengthening my faith. The rest of the week went fairly well. I did have to fight against temptation a few times because I would have cravings for junk food or see people at work eating things I used to eat, and I just repeated to myself the reason I am doing this fast and asked for help from Mr. Almighty. That worked pretty well and then my biggest challenge came on Sunday when I went to a family dinner. My mother in law made Iranian food, which included meat, basmati rice, roasted tomatoes, and a cucumber cream dish. I had my chili, so I was good, but throughout the dinner I had to stare the food head on and then watch my family indulge on every bite of meat and rice. I just looked at them and in my mind said to them, “Good for you, but I am eating my chili and enjoying every bit of it! Keep your meat and rice! Boom!”. After I said that to myself, it felt good to not be tempted or saddened that I wasn’t eating what they were. On day 7 I got some good news, a coworker that Chris and I work with is considering doing the fast! Chris’ testimony was my inspiration to do the Daniel Fast and to know that our experiences are influencing others to pursue the fast and God, is a joyous feeling. I hope our experiences inspire others to do the fast and get closer to God. I have 2 more weeks to go and I am ready to face them head on, bring it!
